Gate City Kiwanis Club Information

Who Are We?:

There are currently over 9,000 Kiwanis clubs located in over 81 countries worldwide. These clubs are organized in districts and divisions. What We Do:

The most essential and the most important part of the Gate City Club, however, is the total membership since it takes the effort of every member to achieve and maintain the high standards of this organization.

The Gate City Club meets every Monday (except certain holidays) at The Painted Plate @ 2001 North Church Street (see directions below):

12:00 - 12:25 Lunch
12:25 - 12:40 Business and Announcements
12:40 - 1:00 Program

The Board of Directors meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at various locations.  All members are invited to attend. Board meetings qualify for meeting make-ups. Members are urged to become involved in club projects and to attend club meetings on a regular basis.

Club dues are $180.00 per quarter which includes the cost of the meal at each meeting. There is also a one-time initiation fee. Members are encouraged to contribute at least $250 per year to the Kiwanis Foundation to fund our annual projects (this annual contribution is in lieu of having members conduct fund raisers), and occasionally to special projects adopted by the Board of Directors to support the activities of the Club. Past Special Projects include Victory Junction and a sizable contribution to the Operation Smile.

The Gate City Club is a very distinguished and proud organization having received many awards and honors. The Gate City Club is also a very active club and some of the more recent organizations and special projects are listed below:

  • Wyndham Classic Golf Tournament Marshals
  • Salvation Army ringing of the bells at Christmas
  • Provide Judges for the Guilford County 4-H Public Speaking Contest
  • Old North State Council for Boy Scouts of America
  • Salvation Army
  • Urban Ministry
  • Operation Smile
  • Terrific Kids Recognition Programs (Alderman, Jessie Wharton, Hunter, Millis Roads, and Lindley Elementary Schools)
  • Horsepower

Where We Get Our Funds:

Dues: $180.00 per quarter which covers meals, administrative expenses, a subscription to Kiwanis Magazine, and International dues. There is also a one time initiation fee.

Fund-raising: Our local board approves an annual fund drive among members to obtain voluntary tax-deductible pledges to the Gate City Kiwanis Foundation which supports our community services. Members are encouraged to contribute at least $250 per year (this annual contribution is in lieu of having members conduct fundraisers), and occasionally to special projects adopted by the Board of Directors to support the activities of the Club. Past Special Projects include a Habitat for Humanity House and a sizable contribution to the Greensboro Children's Museum.

Come and Visit Us:

We invite you to attend one of our meetings as our guest to share in a meal and atmosphere of fun, learning, and fellowship. With a continuing focus on projects addressing the needs of children through our "Young Children Priority One" program, our club also affords you the oopportunity to make a difference in the lives of young people.
